Laura has written us a gorgeous account of her Suzanne Neville Designer Day dreams becoming a reality as she married Thomas earlier this year. Welcome to the Frances Day Bridal Alumni Laura - we adore you.
Bridal Fashion
For my wedding I envisioned a style which balanced the outdoors, country setting, but with an air of elegance and sophistication. I wanted something which matched my energy and something which would be fun, playful yet classic and something which would be timeless, that would feel just as special decades from now but also as it did on my day.
I wanted my bridesmaids to feel comfortable and themselves, but to follow through with the classic and sophisticated look choosing champagne and neutral colours but with a pop of colour and the grooms men in black tie. Ultimately my goal was to create a wedding experience that combined the warmth of the countryside with the elegance of a traditional wedding, making memories that would be cherished for years to come.
Memorable Shopping Moments
Walking through the doors of Frances Day Bridal, I was instantly put at ease by the warm welcome from Julia and her wonderful team. Their kindness and genuine warmth made the entire experience feel special from the start. I had tried on so many dresses before, unsure of what truly felt right, but they intuitively understood my vision and effortlessly guided me to the styles that suited me best.
The highlight, however, was attending Suzanne Neville’s exclusive launch night celebrating her new Symphony Collection. Meeting Suzanne herself and having her personally style me in one of her exquisite 2024 designs was an unforgettable, surreal moment. She selected a gown from her new line, fitted me, and even sketched a drawing of the dress while suggesting accessories to complete the look.
Sharing such a meaningful experience with my mum made it all the more special. From that day through to the final fittings and personal touches, with the personalised embroidered veil, and earrings designed by Miss Clemmie, every moment was thoughtful and unforgettable—a memory I’ll always treasure as a part of my wedding journey.
The Location
Our wedding took place at a new stunning boutique wedding venue, one which id been watching take shape even before I was engaged, knowing this is where I wanted to get married. The full glass window in the ceremony hall opens out onto fields and oak tree, which created this indoor, outdoor feel. The venue allowed for us to celebrate the whole weekend, starting on the Friday keeping the celebrations going through to the Sunday. I envisioned a September golden hour over the fields, which was so magical and the space captured that perfectly. The owners were also so welcoming and supportive of me and Tom, adding personal touches to the weekend, making everything feel even more meaningful.
The Main Event
Reflecting on our wedding day feels like trying to capture pure magic. From the moment it began, it was everything I’d dreamed of and more. I kept my dress a secret from my bridal party, making the reveal with them so incredibly special. Prosecco flowed all day, filling the air with excitement, warmth, and endless love. One of the most emotional moments was standing with my dad outside the grand black doors to the ceremony hall, feeling a rush of nerves, excitement, and emotion that I’d never experienced before.
Though I can hardly believe Tom agreed, we wrote our own vows, putting our journey into words that left not a single dry eye in the room. Surrounded by all our closest friends and family, I felt so overwhelmed and grateful by such joy and love. With everything Tom has gone through with his health in the past three years, seeing him there in full health, embracing every moment, made our day even more so special.
As the night unfolded, the celebrations continued and my face was aching from all the smiling and laughter. From a sparkler send-off to a hilarious champagne tower mishap—complete with a flying cork smashing glasses!—to sharing champagne straight from the bottle, each moment became a memory we’ll cherish forever. And as I slipped into my second outfit, with the saxophonist setting the dance floor alight, my feet didn’t stop moving until the end. Every detail, every laugh, every embrace made it a day we’ll hold in our hearts forever.
Words of Wisdom
With hindsight, I’d tell my newly engaged self to do everything which I was fortunate enough to do, embrace every single moment and opportunity along the journey. Savour the planning, from touring venues to trying on dresses - and don't rush through any of it. Go to the collection events, wedding shows and tasting you can, and make the most of this special season as fiancés. Bring along your closest friends and family, letting them be part of the experience only add to the joy and celebrations.
Above all, don't stress, this is your day, make it exactly what you want, without worrying too much about perfection. Share the important details with your partner, but leave a few surprises for him and your guests. It’s these unexpected moments that make the day feel even more magical. Most importantly on the big day, let yourself relax and soak it all in. Look around, take time to feel the love surrounding you both and remember that this is a celebration of the two of you and the journey you have shared, everything else will fall into place.
Newlywed
The first few months of marriage have been like living in a beautiful, blissful wedding bubble. I find myself constantly looking back at photos and videos, reliving each moment and feeling that same joy all over again. Sharing memories with family and friends, reminiscing about the celebrations and laughing about all the little moments from our wedding weekend has been such a special way to keep the magic alive. I'm excited to continue marking each month, each year and seeing how our love grows as we build our life together.
